Poem: The So-called Prince of Peace

Provoked by a magazine article on the occasion of Pope John Paul II visit to Australia in 1986.

In the name of peace to our land comes one

whom everywhere all men condone;

highly exalts himself on every throne,

calling Christians home to Rome.

…………………………………………………………………….

In the name of peace he kisses the earth,

where ere he goes he leaves great dearth.

Plaguing our fertile land for all he’s worth,

though whom he blesses will be cursed.

…………………………………………………………………

In the name of peace he appears to bless,

certainly not in righteousness.

All men’s glory by stealth he would possess;

in his wake he leaves us distress.

……………………………………………………………….

In the name of peace he will more blaspheme

by many a trendy, grand scheme,

boasts the right to be Pontifex supreme;

“Prince of Peace” says a magazine!!

…………………………………………………………..

In the name of peace he represents Christ,

The Holiest in the Highest;

nor ever was Jesus quite so “pious”

as is the Man of Sin disguised.

………………………………………………………..

In the name of peace where there is no peace

the ancient Roman “church” may still increase,

and in her Christ will certainly decrease

because in her doctrine there is no grace;

and never will her subtle bondage cease,

……In the name of Peace!…..
